So it turns out 'The Road' may be several notches above the normal world disaster movie and is based onnovel by American writer Cormac McCarthy, a post-apocalyptic tale of a journey taken by a father and his young son over a period of several months, across a landscape blasted by an unnamed cataclysm that destroyed all civilization and, apparently, most life on earth. The novel was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2006. It is, I'm told, bleak and dark.... both ideal characteristics of a good movie as far as I'm concerned. I'm in that kind of frame of mind after 'Synecdoche, New York' last night.
