Two films I'll be wanting to catch this year:
'Religulous' is rollercoast ride through several world religions, including Christianity, by sceptic Bill Maher. Maher isn't well known in the UK, which is a shame because his HBO show 'Real Time' is almost always funny and insightful. The film looks at faith through critical eyes but Maher is the best kind of sceptic, genuinely wanting to figure out the truth and prepared to ask some tough questions of those who claim to have faith. The trailer is also very funny. It's set for release in the UK on April 3rd.
And then there's 'What would Jesus buy?', described as "An examination of the commercialization of
Christmas in America while following Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop
Shopping Gospel Choir on a cross-country mission to save Christmas from the
Shopocalypse (the end of humankind from consumerism, over-consumption and the
fires of eternal debt.)" Now that sounds fun. There's no agreed date for a UK release though it'll make it here on screen or on dvd sometime I'm sure. The trailer is also kind of funny. It's produced by Morgan Spurlock of 'Supersize me' fame.
